Guildhall Cottages
Great Tey

Guildhall Cottages are thought to be of 17th C. origin, though there
is some evidence for them being a century or two earlier. At some
time, the north end has suffered fire damage - at least a third of
the building has disappeared.

Once a meet for merchants, landowners and farmers, it may also
have been a "courthouse" presided over by the Lord of the Manor.
Later uses were much grimmer: auctioned in 1838, the "Board of
Guardians"
called it a "redundant Workhouse ... for conversion
into six comfortable tenements"
