My computer is an HP 8080, with 250Gb HDD, Memorex 48-speed CDROM, 2Gb RAM, running Windows Vista. I use an HP 6800 and Laserjet printers. and an hp4118 scanner. Internet connection is through BT cable modem.

1994-1998

Principal objectives are to increase student recruitment, implement a programme to build a more positive image, and instil a market-based culture. Responsible for development and management of Colchester Institute's Youth Training programme, and contracts with Essex TEC.
Achievements:

  • Exceeded 1995/6, 1996/7 and 1997/8 target recruitment levels,
  • Introduced Modern Apprenticeship programme, and increased Youth Training revenue threefold,
  • Upgraded Advertising to address customer perceptions issues,

Commercial Attaché

1990-1993

Responsible for promotion of trade, investment and technological co-operation between the UK and the Province of Ontario, Canada. Sales activity of £100m, Investment £75m. Involved high-level negotiations with key buyers, senior management of UK and Canadian companies, and Government officials.
Achievements :

  • Initiated market research techniques on behalf of clients, which increased the client base three-fold,
  • Exceeded Sales and Investment targets for 1992 and 1993 by over 15% (including project work for Amersham International/Nordion, Alloy Wheels International, Kalanaft central purchasing),
  • Conceived and implemented new Information Technology systems, which improved the quality and speed of response to clients and set a standard of Next Day Service .

ROM Ltd

General Manager, South East

1988-1990

Rom Ltd, a subsidiary of the Rugby Group, manufactures and distributes reinforcing steel and associated products for the construction industry. General Manager, responsible for depot turnover of £18m/year, and reported to by six line managers with 90 personnel. Directed and co-ordinated the area's sales team, personally handling major accounts.
Achievements:

  • Introduced management systems for enhanced efficiency and flexibility, which significantly improved customer satisfaction, and increased sales by 20% at improved margin,
  • Devised innovative bidding techniques, successful in securing three major (over £1m) contracts,
  • Increased bottom-line contribution in a declining market by implementing contract terms, escalation clauses, and successfully negotiating claims

Solus Schall Ltd

General Manager

1987-1988

Inspection and Engineering support services for the Oil and Gas Industry; turnover for 1988 was over £20m, with 480 staff. Head-hunted by Vice President to restore profitability and customer confidence. Charged with full P&L responsibility for all overseas operations.
Achievements:

  • Personally responsible for the compilation, presentation and successful negotiation of the largest contract in the company's history, worth over £20m,
  • Created, specified and implemented computer-based systems for project cost control, resource utilization monitoring, and tendering, which increased profitability by 21%.

D.C.Griffith Ltd

Sales Director

1983-1987

A world leader in the verification of quality and quantity of commodities, with an annual turnover (then) of £6m, and extensive overseas operations.
Achievements:

  • Establishment of a Joint Venture company to inspect all Nigeria's imports, involving negotiations, setting up offices in UK and Nigeria, devising and implementing operating procedures, and high-level public relations with the client Government, major exporters, Trade Associations and the Media,
  • Promoted to Main Board Director, with responsibilities for market development, sales policy, direct sales, overseas liaison with agents and associates, and initiation of new service lines,
  • As a result of these achievements, profits grew five-fold, enabling the owners to gain a substantial return on their initial investment.

Recruited as Engineer in Corrosion Systems Division. Successive promotions through Office Engineer, then Area Manager in successively Nigeria, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, culminating in General Manager, responsible for all International operations.
